Council Minutes

The monthly council meeting for St. John's Lutheran Church was held on Sunday, July 18, 2010  after worship. The meeting was called to order by church President and was opened with prayer by Pastor Thalacker. 

Secretary’s Report –
Secretary's report was given and approved.     

Treasurer’s Report - Treasurer’s report was given. Minutes were approved.   

The need for a new computer for Pastor Thalacker's office was discussed.  A motion was made for Bobbi to purchase a laptop computer.

Financial Secretary Report - Financial report was given and approved as read.           

President’s Report – Mary Jane was approached to let the Dunkerton cheerleaders use the church for cheerleading practice on July 28 and 29. There will be around 12 girls. Permission was granted.    
             
Pastor’s Report –  Pastor gave his hand out on his schedule, visitations, meetings and continuing ed.                                
   
Deacon's Report - None.

Trustee Report - Gary reported they will be spraying around the foundation for ants. A motion was made to review the key situation for Pastor's office. The key will be available to Pastor, Deacons, the janitor, and the church secretary. Motion carried.      

Sound Committee - Guest, Deanne Kuenstling gave a brief report on what the Sound Committee will talk about at the Semi-Annual Meeting on July 25, 2010.  

New Business -

Semi-Annual Meeting-
Two issues will be discussed on approving the candidacy on the clergy roster of gay / lesbian clergy. The one issue is with regard to policy which is to allow for candidacy GLBTT candidates. The second issue will regard the question of St John's funding to the ELCA.

Pastor will pass out an unofficial straw poll regarding this congregation's relationship with the ELCA and our options. A motion was made to approve the question on funding Motion carried. A motion was made to approve an unofficial straw poll by the congregation.

The Semi-Annual meeting will be July 25, 2010.

The next council meeting will be August 22, 2010

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was closed with the Lord's Prayer.
